Google buys Jaiku - Sometimes it’s good to be second best

Jaiku is the second largest operator in what is sometimes reffered to lifestreaming. If you’ve only heard of one service in that genre it would be Twitter, not Jaiku. That’s one reason why many are now surpriced that Google has bought Jaiku instead of Twitter. Another reason being that Twitter was founded by the same guy who founded Blogger wich he sold to Google.

So why Jaiku instead of Twitter?

Personally I think I understand why Google made the choice to go with the second largest mobile blogging tool instead of the one with the largest userbase. One of the reasons might be that Jaiku isn’t that known. That way, when Google release it to the market as their tool most will feel it’s a google innovation.

That would also make it easier for them to implement Jaiku into other systems and one other in particular…Orkut. What is Orkut many of you will now wonder, I know I did when I found out that it’s the most used part of the entire Google network. Orkut is Googles social network and a lot of people think that the final release of Orkut, wich is now in beta, is what Google means when they say that they will have a big release november 5th. If so, how much will the value of Facebook drop?

What now?

So now Google has Orkut, Gtalk, Jaiku, Blogger and a lot of other social tools on the web. They aren’t really the biggest in any of these areas but what will happen if they manage to actually bring them together as one tool? Will they become as boring as Microsofts Live network with MSN and Hotmail or will they become the first web based desktop system? Will you be able to buy a computer with no operating system, only Google?

What do you think of all this? Remember that every valid comment is another chanse to win a t-shirt!
